Conversations That May Fire You Up
It was during a workshop on diversity while serving as a tutor for the Minnesota MathCorps that I first heard a phrase along the lines of “the discomfort in the room is where the opportunity for TRUE growth lives.” It’s stuck with me ever since.
This little corner of the Internet was sparked by my observations of the world around me after the murder of George Floyd. Don’t get me wrong – there haven’t been any new revelations that I hadn’t already discovered in my time on this planet; I just feel compelled to voice them to anyone that they may resonate with.
I’ve always offered, to anyone that was interested, the opportunity to open a dialogue about a number of topics that may be considered “hot-button.” “Race” relations, religion and sexuality being among them… As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing “sacred” as long as we are comfortable engaging in the conversation.
But there’s the rub… These conversations are NOT comfortable. Some will literally make you physically squirm. Most will make you cringe internally, as they WILL require you to challenge what you think you KNOW… What you feel you BELIEVE. Some of them have HIGH potential to piss you off, guaranteed.
Let’s get UNcomfortable, shall we?
